Truckee Clean Up Day

For the past 10 years, the Town of Truckee has held a town-wide Clean up Day and Townwide Block Party on the first Saturday in June.  This year, the tradition continues! Former Mayor, Maia Schneider, was the brain child behind this unique concept, and we’re proud to say that Dickson Realty has been involved since its inception.

There are  check-in stations in most of the local neighborhoods and everyone from small children (with parents in tow) to senior citizens spends an hour or so cleaning up roadside trash in their part of town.  Trash bags are provided, as well as water and snacks to keep you going, and even a limited edition t shirt for all participants. After your shift, you can join your neighbors and friends at the Truckee River Regional Park for a down home BBQ for all volunteers.

2014’s Clean up Day had over 800 volunteers collecting over 3 tons of trash – an awe-inspiring, and a bit frightening, amount!

As a resort area, it makes sense to put our best face forward as the height of the visitor season approaches, and thus, many local businesses help to sponsor this event.  This is also a great teaching moment for our kids, and a way for each of us to take ownership of this lovely spot we call “home”.

So, grab your work gloves, and some friends, and let’s IMAG0470make our part of the world a better place.  You need not pre-register to participate, just show up at one of the check-in stations on the day of the event.  You’ll find a list of those stations here.  See you at the BBQ!
