Soda Springs RV Park Proposal

A public meeting is scheduled for Sunday, January 15th, at 4 p.m. in the Donner Summit PUD Board Room regarding the re-establishment of a 13-space RV Park by the owner of the Soda Springs General Store building.  The purpose of the public meeting is to discuss the project and gather public comments and questions.

Previous hookups exist on the perimeter of the Soda Springs General Store property.  The project proposal includes removal of old utility pedestals to be replaced with 15 new pedestals;  new utility trench and pavement apron for each site; remodeling of the storage shed to accommodate electrical panel, laundry and restrooms.

The county requests public comments before January 19, 2012 and they should be in writing.  The Donner Summit Area Association (DSAA) has opened their website and their Facebook page to receive such comments which they will forward to the county.

Ice Skating in Serene Lakes Has Never Been Better!

Believe it or not, there’s a bright spot to the lack of snowfall this year.  With no new snow falling on the frozen lake, the ice remains glass-smooth — perfect for ice skaters, hockey players and even canines!

CPR/AED Class at Soda Springs Fire Station

Truckee Fire Protection District will be hosting an American Heart Association CPR/AED class on January 12, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The class will be held at the Soda Springs Fire Station located at 53823 Sherrit Lane and the fee is $30.

The AHA CPR/AED class is appropriate for both new certification and renewal.  Techniques have changed recently and are much easier than before.  What you’ll take away from the class is a CPR/AED card, textbook, “barrier” device and the knowledge to save a life.

So sign up!

Ski for Schools Discounted Lift Tickets

Discount Ski and Ride Lift Tickets Benefit Our Local Tahoe-Truckee Schools

You can once again ski or ride at a huge discount when you purchase Skiing for Schools lift tickets.  The proceeds from each lift ticket purchase goes directly to the Excellence in Education Foundation.

Excellence in Education is a private, nonprofit organization that enhances public education within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District.  Its goal – to strengthen the learning experience for students. Each year the Foundation raises money and provides grants, resources and partnerships to benefit students, teachers and the educational community as a whole.

A number of local resorts participate in this great opportunity for you to ski or ride at a great price while supporting a wonderful cause — our schools.

This year is a bit different than past years.  Lift tickets will be valid for any one day within specified weeks which allows for a lot more flexibility than in the past years.

Downhill ski area tickets can be purchased in advance at Porters in Truckee and Tahoe City.  Nordic ski area tickets may be purchased in advance at Paco’s in Truckee and Alpenglow in Tahoe City.

NOTE: Only a limited number of non-refundable tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. They are only available in advance — they will not be available at the resorts the day of the event.  Check and cash are the preferred form of payment.
